More about donating...

Many times we are asked what items we need.  Shipping is expensive and often exceeds the value of the item (unless brought in via plane with a missions team).  Customs duty rates can also be costly and this takes time.

Basic supplies can be purchased locally at much lower cost than in the US.  This also helps the local economy.  So bottom line, the most effective way to help immediately is through a financial contribution to Theos Work.

Although, we are working towards becoming more self-sustaining through agriculture at the village/farm, food is still our greatest expense.  You may ease our burden of routine operating expenses (food, clothing, medical care, etc.-- imagine all that it takes to care for a family of hundreds!) or designate a specific purpose.

All donations to Theo’s Work, Inc. are tax-deductible as the organization is a 501(c) (3) charity.

2. SPONSORSHIP

You may choose to designate your contribution in the form of a sponsorship commitment .

3. FARM ANIMAL GIFTS

As an alternative gift for someone you know who “has everything” or simply to support Pwoje Espwa’s agricultural efforts, you may opt to purchase a farm animal.

For $400, you can purchase a cow

For $250, you can purchase a pig

For $25, you can purchase a pair of rabbits

For $1, you can purchase a chick

4. PLANNED GIVING

An endowment fund can build a secure future for Pwoje Espwa.  Planned giving is one way to maximize your gifts while minimizing your taxes.  One of these options may meet your goal to keep charitable giving in line with your personal financial objectives.

Donation of appreciated stocks or mutual funds:

The benefit:  You avoid paying capital gains tax on the appreciation while you deduct the full fair market value of the donated stocks or mutual funds shares at the time you make your gift.  To make arrangements, you will need to contact your broker.

Bequest in your will:

The benefit:  You maintain use and control of your assets as long as you need them.  This meaningful donation may reduce estate tax. Your attorney can add a simple paragraph to your will to include Theo’s Work, Inc. with a gift of a set sum or percentage of your estate.  It is an easy way to ensure that your wishes will be carried out to support programs where the need is the greatest.

Life Insurance:

The benefit:  You may give a substantial gift to destitute children at a minimal cost to you.  You may transfer ownership/beneficiary status for a paid-up policy OR you may purchase a new policy and name TWI as the owner or beneficiary.  Your life insurance company can provide the forms you need to make this gift.

Theos Work has extremely low administration expenses and is managed by volunteers in the US.

Theo’s Work, Inc. is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)3 charity.  Financial statements are available upon request.

To keep administrative expenses to a minimum, we will not acknowledge each contribution as it is received.  Be assured that each and every contribution is appreciated.

A year-end tax letter will be sent to those who have contributed $250 or more.  A detailed financial report for the fiscal year ending June 2004 is available upon request.

At Theo's Work Inc., we are accountable before God and you to use gifts in the best way possible to help the poor children of Haiti. All gifts are used as designated whenever possible. In the unlikely event that a project is completed after a donation comes in or an item is no longer needed (we can only have so many cows), your gift will be applied to a similar and more urgent need.
